Hello Friend,
The big advantage to having an Ebay store is it offers listing fees as low as 2 cents. You can list 100's of items in your store for just a few dollars. The disadvantage is store listings do not show up in the Ebay search results. So basically, if you start out listing all your items in a store, you'll save a lot on listing fees, but you will not get anyone looking at your listings. No one looking at your items equals zero sales.
The advantage to listing in an auction format is you will get lots of traffic from the Ebay search results. Lots of traffic equals lots of potential sales. The disadvantage is the listing fees for auction items are a lot higher than the store.
I recommend you start with auction items. This is where you are going to make the most sales. But at some point, you should open a store. You ask, "Why should I open a store. You said it doesn't show up in the search results and doesn't get any traffic?"
Well, I'm glad you asked. Because the store is so cheap to operate, you want to take advantage of the low listing fees. So yes, setup a store and list some of your items inside.
You can direct traffic to your store by using the items you run at auction. Once you open a store, every auction item you run will have a small link near your user id letting visitors know you have a store. In addition, Ebay will allow you to add a link anywhere on the page directing these visitors to your store.
If you will study the auctions of the most successful sellers, they all have one thing in common. They are all setup to attract potential buyers into their stores where they list the bulk of their items.
By setting up a combination of store and auction listings, you can take advantage of the low listing fees the store provides, and maximize your traffic using auction listings.
