"Picking good dvd titles is what seperates the successful businesses from those that fail"

Everyone gets excited about New Release DVDs. Personally, I don't like new release DVDs. I consider them high demand low profit items. They are at a premium for everyone. My goal is to make $2 - $3 per DVD. I've found I only make this same $2 - $3 on a new release DVD that cost me $15 - $19. I would much rather make the same $2 - $3 on a movie that cost me $6 - $8.

I really like movies that are a couple of years old. This is the category I put most of my time into. What titles you decide to sell is totally up to you. It is important that you spend enough time doing the research before you buy a lot of titles that you can't sell.

I direct all my customers to STUDY the auctions listed by midwest_media, white_elephant_media, and moviemarz. These are some of eBay's largest dvd sellers. If you will take a look at their past auctions, you will not see many, if any, new release DVDs there.

WHAT DVD TITLES SHOULD I SELL?

Researching titles is the most important thing you can do. If you go to eBay and click on "Advanced Search", you can search by seller, and then refine the search to completed items. This is a good way to look at the past auctions of these top sellers I mentioned and see what titles are selling.

Don't limit yourself to just looking at the auctions of these three sellers. If you browse the DVD category on eBay, you'll find lots of full time sellers to take a look at.

Once I find a title that is a good seller, I add it to my "Buy List". You'll find the titles that you research will grow in size like a giant snowball. It seems a little slow at first, but after a few weeks, you'll have a few hundred titles that you know are good sellers.

For instance, if you spend 5 - 10 hours this week researching titles and come up with 100 good ones. You add those 100 to your "Buy List". Then next week when you spend the same 5 - 10 hours researching titles and come up with 100 new titles, your buy list will have grown to 200. After a few weeks, you'll have several hundred movies on your list.

In addition to a "Buy List", I have a "Do Not Buy List". You'll find movies that are good sellers may not remain good sellers forever. Your "Buy List" will always need to be refined. Once I have a title go bad, I take it off the Buy List and add it to my Do Not Buy List to make sure I don't purchase it again.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT POINT

You cannot make money on every title. Your goal is to find the titles you can make money on. Don't waste your time researching titles you like or you "think" will be good sellers. Instead, research your cost on the titles you see the big sellers have sold. When you find a title that is selling over and over determine if you can buy it low enough to make $2 - $3. If so, you have a good title for your buy list.
